In a time when much of today’s rap scene is clouded by trends, quick clout, and make-believe stories, That Boi Sheek is carving a lane of authenticity. Coming straight out of East Oakland, Sheek represents the reality of growing up in the city—where the choices were limited to sports, the streets, or finding a way through music. For him, rap wasn’t just another option; it became survival and therapy.

His latest release, “Back 2 Back,” isn’t just a track—it’s a statement. Sheek admits he’s been releasing some older work to build momentum, but the message he pushes forward is timeless. He’s motivated by the kids, by people who aren’t here anymore, and by the need to be a real figure in a scene that often feels saturated with cap. “A lot of people rap about make-believe,” Sheek says, “but I’m a figure of the real.”

For Sheek, music isn’t about image—it’s about sanity. “Music is what keeps me sane,” he explains. Growing up in Oakland means facing demons daily, and for him, the craft is both an outlet and a way to do things the right way. Unlike artists chasing quick attention, Sheek wants to restore the balance—reminding people that Oakland still has something deeper to offer: substance.

He acknowledges that today’s rap is different. “Nowadays kids growing up focused on bullshit, cause a lot of music got no substance—but it’s lucrative,” Sheek says. The reality of the game is that the shallow side often pays faster, but Sheek is determined to balance the good and bad, putting both into his work so it reflects the truth of his city.

Oakland has always been a breeding ground for influential voices in hip-hop, and That Boi Sheek is carrying that legacy into a new generation. While others get lost in the noise, Sheek is breaking through by staying authentic, focused, and rooted in real-life experiences. His music isn’t just for streams—it’s for the people who live it, breathe it, and need a voice that represents them.
